3 JMPD Constables arrested for the April 2017 murder of Journalist Godknows Nare in Florida
3 Constables attached to the JMPD were arrested by the IPID on 25 January 2018 in connection with the murder of journalist Godknows Nare. Three will appear at the Roodepoort Magistrates Court on charges of murder, assault and defeating the ends of justice on 26 January 2018. The arrest and court appearance follow an investigation by the IPID which uncovered that contrary to the version of the officers that they were shot at, they in fact killed the deceased and staged the crime scene to cover their tracks. IPID Executive Director, Robert McBride commended the investigator, saying "Police officer are expected to act within the bounds of the Constitution and the laws of our country. This case shows that tampering with evidence will not protect those who should be held accountable from responsibility."
