SAPS SERGEANT ACCUSED OF RAPE – ROBERTSON CAS 266/12/2012

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has arrested a 37 year old police sergeant for raping a 65 year old woman. The suspect, Sergeant Benjamin Scheepers is stationed at SAPS Macgregor, Western Cape.

It is alleged that on 15 December 2012 at about 11h00 the victim was driving with the suspect in his vehicle. The Sergeant was off duty at the time. The suspect drove towards the direction of the graveyard. He then pulled over the car and raped the victim.

The victim reported the matter at the station. IPID was notified and immediately took over the matter for further investigation.

The IPID arrested the suspect member at his place of residence on 16 December 2012. His private vehicle was also seized for forensic investigation purpose. He appeared at the Robertson Magistrates Court on 18 December 2012 and the case was remanded to 24 December 2012 for a formal bail application.
