The aim of the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is to ensure independent oversight over the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the Municipal Police Services (MPS), and to conduct independent and impartial investigations of identified criminal offences allegedly committed by members of the SAPS and the MPS, and make appropriate recommendations.

A married Police Constable sentenced for murder of two lovers out of jealousy

Pretoria - 23 April 2015

The IPID `s investigation into a double murder case of Ms Lindeni Sengwayo 24 years and her boyfriend Mr Alpheos Mike Magagule 33 years whom died at the hands of Police Constable Edwell Makhubela led to a successful conviction. A married 36 year old Constable Makhubele who is stationed at Graskop SAPS in Mpumalanga shot and killed two lovers with his service pistol out of jealousy. SAPS Sergeant appears in court for attempted murder of his wife

A 38 year old SAPS Sergeant, based at Wolseley SAPS, in the Western Cape appeared in court on 10 February 2015 for the alleged attempted murder of his wife. The case is being investigated by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) in terms of its mandate in line with the IPID Act 1 of 2011.
