The aim of the Independent Police
Investigative Directorate (IPID) is to
ensure independent oversight over the
South African Police Service (SAPS) and
the Municipal Police Services (MPS), and
to conduct independent and impartial
investigations of identified criminal
offences allegedly committed by members
of the SAPS and the MPS, and make
appropriate recommendations.
Warrant Officer Maratshane to be prosecuted
for assaulting a female at a filling station in
Smithfield, Free State
Pretoria - 13 June 2013
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in the
Free State has agreed with the recommendations
of the Independent Police Investigative
Directorate (IPID) that Warrant Officer Ernest
Maratshane should be prosecuted for assault. The
DPP has decided that the suspect be prosecuted
for two (2) counts of assault with intent to
cause grievous bodily harm (GBH).

Pretoria - 10 June 2013
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate
(IPID) has arrested a 30 year old male constable
for the murder of a 26 year old Zimbabwean
national. The suspect constable who is attached
to the Maitland Flying Squad Unit is alleged to
have shot and killed the deceased with his
official firearm in the early hours of Sunday,

Warrant Officer arrested for raping a 43 year old female in police cells in Galeshewe, Kimberley
Pretoria - 27 May 2013
A 45 year old Warrant Officer is to appear at the Kimberley
Magistrates Court on 28 May 2013 for raping a female who was
detained in the holding cells at Galeshewe SAPS. The suspect
is stationed at Galeshewe SAPS. On the day of the alleged
offence he was posted at the cells and this made it easy
for him to gain entry to the cells.
