The aim of the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is to ensure independent oversight over the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the Municipal Police Services (MPS), and to conduct independent and impartial investigations of identified criminal offences allegedly committed by members of the SAPS and the MPS, and make appropriate recommendations.

SAPS Sergeant to Appear in Court for the Shooting of a 15 Year old Teenager in Rhelela, Limpopo

A police sergeant attached to the SAPS Tzaneen Dog Unit will appear before the Bolobedu Magistrates Court tomorrow in relation to the shooting and death on 26 January 2014 of a 15 year old teenager, Tshepo Baloyi from Rhelela in Limpopo. The shooting incident occurred at the time when the local community were engaged in a protest action sparked by the suspected ritual killing of a young female in the area.
