The aim of the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is to ensure independent oversight over the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the Municipal Police Services (MPS), and to conduct independent and impartial investigations of identified criminal offences allegedly committed by members of the SAPS and the MPS, and make appropriate recommendations.

The IPID through its successful investigation managed to secure a sentence of 5 Police Officers from Mondoer Police Station with each of them receiving 3 terms of life imprisonment and an additional 307 years of imprisonment on 64 counts of cases ranging from Murder, Attempted murder, Unlawful possession of unauthorised explosives and escape from Lawful custody. Constables sentenced to 18 years for Macassar rape, Western Cape

Pretoria - 07 August 2015

A 33 year old Constable based at Macassar SAPS was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment for 3 counts of rape. He was declared unfit to possess a firearm. The accused was out on bail at the time of sentencing and was immediately sent to Pollsmoor prison. The investigation was conducted by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID). The Magistrate commended the IPID investigator for the manner in which he investigated the case and for his reliability as a witness. [Read More]
